Novartis game takes aim at ticks

30/07/10 permalink  Novartis has launched a new online game to raise awareness of the risks posed by ticks and how to avoid the dangerous infections they can transmit.

Players of Zeck Attack have to catapult ticks at potential victims, with more points on offer for hitting people who haven’t protected themselves, either by vaccination or covering themselves suitably when outdoors. (Read More.)

UK health clinic first for Pfizer

28/07/10 permalink  Men in the UK can now go online for confidential advice and information about any health problem through a unique pharma initiative.

The ManMOT clinic is the UK’s first online health surgery for men and will be open for consultations every Monday from 6pm - 11pm for the next four months. (Read More.)

Pfizer puts mental health diagnosis tools online

26/07/10 permalink  Pfizer has put two widely used mental health assessment tools online for the public to use.

It aims to improve diagnosis and patient care by making the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ) and General Anxiety Disorder questionnaire (GAD-7) freely available to download. (Read More.)

OnMedica set to reopen under new owners

21/07/10 permalink  A buyer has been found for the services of UK online doctors portal OnMedica, which have been on hold since June when the company went into liquidation.

Health information firm Binley’s acquired its assets, including brand names, websites and databases, in a deal that was finalised on 9 July. (Read More.)

Social media an 'enigma' for pharma

15/07/10 permalink  The vast majority of pharma companies now use social media in one form or another, but it is unclear how far they will go to invest in the tools, according to a new survey.

Cegedim Dendrite polled over 200 senior executives from the leading pharma companies for its 2010 Insights report and found that while most firms did invest in social media, there was much variation in the amounts they put behind it. (Read More.)

NICE launches mobile evidence service

09/07/10 permalink  NICE has launched a mobile version of its online clinical evidence portal NHS Evidence.

The beta version of the service includes a search with top-level results, snippets of document information, document file identifiers and a link to the full version of NHS Evidence. (Read More.)

Big pharma's iPhone apps (part three)

07/07/10 permalink  In the first two parts of Big Pharma’s iPhone Apps I looked at apps produced by 11 of the largest pharmaceutical companies.

Between them they’ve produced 39 apps focused on the ethical pharma side of their business, with apps for patients diaries, disease awareness, disease prognosis, calculating medicine doses and finding clinical trials. (Read More.)

02/07/10 permalink  Most sectors of business have been eagerly eyeing, and responding to, the potential of Apple’s iPhone, and this year’s iPad release further upped the ante.

There are already thousands of iPhone medical applications, almost all of which will run on the iPad, and a handful of these have been produced by pharma companies. (Read More.)
