Pfizer’s Kindler elected PhRMA chairman
Jeffrey Kindler, chairman and chief executive of Pfizer, has been elected chairman of PhRMA, succeeding AstraZeneca’s chief executive David Brennan in the role.
“I am excited to lead this organisation during such a dynamic time for our nation’s healthcare system,” Kindler said. “The biopharmaceutical industry can be a catalyst for change by creating a future with good jobs and good health in the US.”
“We aim to be a leading voice for improving everyone’s ability to have reliable and affordable health care.”
The US industry association has also elected Sanofi-Aventis chief executive Chris Viehbacher as chairman-elect of the board of directors and Lilly chief executive John Lechleiter as board treasurer.
Meanwhile, PhRMA president and chief executive Billy Tauzin will be stepping down at the end of June after five years of heading up the association, but plans to continue in a consultancy role.
